William (Bill) Edward Grissom, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on June 27, 2024, in Athens, Alabama, at the age of 70.
Bill was born on July 19, 1953, in Hazel Park, Michigan, to Douglas Rudolph Grissom and Doris Jean Grissom. He graduated from Milford High School in 1971 and dedicated over 35 years of his life to his career as a machine operator before retiring in 2014.
In 1975, Bill married the love of his life, Deborah Sue Grissom. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising three children: Lydia Randolph, Hannah McDuffie, and Jared Grissom. Bill was a devoted father whose love and guidance shaped the lives of his children. His legacy continues through his ten grandchildren: Eli, Micah, Hannah, Jared, Hunter, Bentlee, Samara, Aaron, Aiden, and Isaiah, as well as his great-grandchildren, Oliver and Kayce, who were the light of his life.
Bill was a man of strong faith and a devoted follower of Christ. His favorite Bible verse, 1 Corinthians 15:58, reflects his unwavering commitment to his beliefs: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” Bill expressed his faith through his active involvement in his church, where he enjoyed singing on the praise team and serving as a greeter.
He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, such as fishing, hunting, spending quality time with his family, and watching his favorite show, Star Trek. Bill’s gentle spirit and kind heart touched everyone who knew him.
Bill is also survived by his two brothers, Jim Grissom (wife Diane Grissom) and Doug Grissom (wife Janie Grissom), who cherished their time together and shared many fond memories. He was preceded in death by his sister, Geneva Dompierre.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on July 1 at 6 p.m. at Wooley Springs Baptist Church, 28025 Bethel Rd, Toney, Alabama. All who knew and loved Bill are invited to attend and honor his memory.
Bill’s life was a testament to his faith, love for his family, and dedication to his work. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those he touched.
