Viola Clementine Bryan, 87 years old of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away, Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Hospice Family Care.
Viola Bryan was born April 26, 1935 in St. Andrew, on the island of Barbados nestled in the Caribbean. On August 2, 1956, she married Carl Donald Bryan in St. Michael, Barbados. Mrs. Bryan was a phenomenal woman. During her adult years in Barbados she was a seamstress, made beautiful baskets from cane lily and was an employee of Building Supplies Ltd (now defunct). She was especially admired for managing the construction of she and her husband’s first home in Barbados while he was awayworking in the USA. Mrs. Bryan had a keen interest in the scriptures, history and current affairs.
Mrs. Bryan immigrated to the USA, where she lived and was employed in New York City for over fifteen years. She subsequently lived in Virginia and finally rested in Huntsville, Alabama. Viola enjoyed attending church, gospel programs, music, reading, current affairs and completing word puzzles. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Bryan is survived by six of her children: Erskine Watson, Barbara Worrell, Anderson Bryan, Diane Bryan, Sherwin Bryan and Jo-Ann Taalib-Lilley, their spouses and or significant others. Her only living brother, Edward Bovell, several grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Bryan was preceded in death by her dearest love, her husband Mr. Carl D. Bryan, two of their children: daughter Eleanor Watson and son Terry Bryan; her mother Clarice Watson, her father Charles Henry, two sisters Carlotta Knight and Marcia Bovell.
Dearest Viola wanted to note special thanks to her daughter Diane who kept her good company, her son-in-law Lilley for cooking her favorite foods, Marvo Watson for continuing to keep the faith, Wynester Askiew for sincere friendship and MaDonna Hendricks for being a true spiritual sister in Christ. Ma, you were loved and cherished, may you rest well.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 24 at Legacy Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory, 16 Hughes Road, Madison, AL 35758. Mrs. Bryan’s body will be committed to rest immediately after the service at Huntsville Memory Gardens. Friends are welcome to join the family for the celebration of life service.
