Shirley Wayne Butler

Shirley Wayne Butler, a beloved matriarch and dear friend, passed away on January 5, 2025, in Huntsville, Alabama, at the age of 89. Born on March 26, 1935, in Sylacauga, she embraced life with a boundless spirit and an unwavering passion for caring for others throughout her long and fruitful years.

Shirley's career journey took her through various esteemed organizations, including a significant tenure with the FBI in Washington D.C., and later with Robins and Hoar Construction. Her commitment to her work was matched only by the profound love she held for her family. Known for her generous heart, she tirelessly cared for her mother, Nettie Mae Deason, and her siblings, Troy Deason and Jessie Wesson, all while building cherished memories with her late husband.

A graduate of B.B. Comer High School, Shirley valued education and leaned into every opportunity life presented her. While she skillfully navigated her professional life, Shirley's true joy came from the simple pleasures of family gatherings, parties, and making holidays memorable for her loved ones. Her laughter and spirit filled the room, a fitting backdrop to her passion for shopping, playing golf with friends, and her unwavering support for Auburn football and basketball.

Shirley leaves behind a legacy of love and strength within her family. She is survived by her sons, Russell R. Butler Jr. and William C. (Chris) Butler, alongside her cherished grandchildren: Rebecca Demers, Brennan Butler, and James Deason (JD) Butler. Her heart swelled with pride as she welcomed her great-grandson, Charlie Demers, and her twin granddaughter and grandson, Sloan and Shepard Demers.

Shirley also leaves behind a host of loving relatives, including her nephew Mike Deason, and brother-in-law Mark Butler, as well as her other nephew Reed Butler. Though she grieves the loss of her late sister Jessie, her brother Troy, and her dear nephew Mickey, whose spirits remain intertwined with her own.
