Born on May 12, 1937, in Poole, Kentucky. Richard lived a life characterized by steadfast faith, generosity, and deep love for his family.

Richard was married to Cathryn O'Nan Whitmore for 65 years, a union marked by unwavering devotion and support, especially as they faced challenges together, including Cathryn's courageous battle with illness. He dedicated himself to raising four wonderful sons: Curt Whitmore, Cliff (Treva) Whitmore, Rick (Lisa B.) Whitmore, and Randy (Lisa S.) Whitmore. Richard took immense pride in his family and was an active participant in their lives.

Beyond his family commitments, Richard was a proud alumnus of Barrett Manual Training High School and Evansville College. In addition to his hobbies, Richard was a dedicated servant within the Methodist Church, taking on several leadership roles, including serving as the Ministry Board Chair. He selflessly served his community, offering assistance with taxes as an AARP volunteer, showcasing his generous nature. As a cautious investor and saver, Richard balanced his philanthropic heart with prudent stewardship, embodying a role model of faith and integrity.

His proudest accomplishments include not only his military service and community engagement but also his loved ones. Richard leaves behind a legacy of faith and love through his grandchildren: Rachel (Ben) Emerson, Joshua Taylor, Claire (Charlie) Whitmore, Cathryn Anne (Mark) Joly, Ryan Whitmore, Shelby (James) Griessel, Sarah (Brant) Barker, David (Melanie) Whitmore, Hannah Whitmore, Chandler (Alec) Reeves, Katlyn (Adam) Swayze, Haley (Seth) Almond, and Connor Whitmore.
