Donald Jay Fretz, of Harvest AL, passed away on Tuesday May 23, 2023, with loved ones by his side after a long illness.
He is survived by his brother-in-law Albert Klein and wife Linda.
He is survived by his children: son, Daniel Fretz and wife Kathy; daughter, Tracy (Fretz) and husband Cesar Cainelli; and son, John Fretz and wife Brenda.
His 8 grandchildren and their spouses: Kara (Fretz) and Tyler Brock; Samantha (Fretz) and Jeremy Reney; Cesar Mario Cainelli; Sara Cainelli; Brandon Walbridge; Renee (Walbridge) and Curt Devenitch; Rachael (Cunningham) and Garrett Dennard; and USMC Sgt Jon “Riley” Fretz.
Lastly, his 9 great-grandchildren: Lauren and Christian Brock; Isabelle “Izzy” and Alexis Reney; Sullivan “Sully” and Jean Devenitch; Kaylee Chauncey and Carter Dennard and Nathaniel “Nate” Fretz.
He is survived by his sister Joan Matullo and her children, Terriann, Joann, Danette and Eugene, JR.
Don was born on September 9, 1930, to Samuel and Clara Fretz in Philadelphia, PA. Don is preceded in death by his wife, Mary “Peggy” Fretz in March 2004.
After graduating from Augusta Military Academy in 1947, he enlisted in the Naval Reserves and was an Aircrewman on an S2F Aircraft. He was Honorably discharged on September 8, 1959, after 12 years of service.
Don worked in various fields and retired from PEPCO as Management after 35 years of service.
Don moved to Vermont in 2008 to be near his oldest son, Dan, and his family. In January of 2020, he moved to Alabama with his youngest son, John, and his family where he came to finally rest.
Don was an amazing man who had a heart of gold. He will be missed by all that new him. We love you Pop, Dad, Father, Papa, and Mr. Fretz.
