James Harry Carter, Sr., affectionately known as Jim or JC, embarked on his final on September 25, 2024, in Huntsville, Alabama. Born on April 13, 1949, in vibrant city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jim captured the essence of kindness and generosity throughout his remarkable life.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, James honorably, dedicating two valiant tours to Vietnam. His commitment to his country exemplified his courage and resilience, and after twenty years of esteemed service, he retired with honor. Post-military life saw him transition into a life of compassion, where he began his career as an EMT, ultimately rising to the position of paramedic. Even through the challenges of this demanding profession, James continued to exhibit his unparalleled dedication to the well-being of others. After retiring as a paramedic, he further committed himself to serving the community as a dispatcher for Madison County 911, ensuring that help was always at hand for those in need.
James’s life was deeply intertwined with love and devotion, particularly towards his beloved wife, Patricia Carter. Their 36-year marriage served as a testament to true partnership; every week, without fail, he would surprise her with flowers, a cherished ritual that underscored the depth of his affection for her. His boundless love extended beyond his wife, as he was a devoted father to Kisha Glover, William Carter and James Carter Jr., a caring brother to Eugene White and his wife Carolyn, Steven Carter and his wife Karen, Nometha Ginyard and her husband Bruce, Robert Lee Carter, Loretta Carter, and Timothy Carter; and a proud stepfather to Sedric Clark, Turyarka Brown, and Lisa Grisson. He was also a loving grandfather to Heaven Green, Davon Carter, To his family and friends, he was a constant source of support, embodying the belief that friends were indeed friends for life.
James took great pride in his service to fellow veterans, dedicating many years to championing their causes and ensuring they received the recognition they imminently deserved. His gentle spirit, coupled with his impactful career, created a legacy of care and compassion in the hearts of all whom he touched.
As we bid farewell to this illustrious man who touched so many lives, we reflect upon not only his professional accomplishments but also the enduring memories held by his family. James Harry Carter, Sr. is preceded in death by his father, Robert, and mother, Lucille Carter, and his brother Valdamir Carter, whose spirits surely welcomed him with open arms.
The world is undoubtedly a better place for having known him, and though he may have departed, his legacy of love, kindness, and service will endure in the hearts of many.
