Mary Joan Carlin (nee Williams), born April 18, 1947 in Tonawanda, NY passed peacefully at Hospice Family Care due to congestive heart failure on January 15, 2023 at age 75.
Beloved mother, grandmother, sister is survived by her children Mac Hampson (Jennifer), Rebecca Parsons (Stewart), Earl Carlin (Sarah), Cathy Van Orden (Ryan) and Judith Marth (William) as well as 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Peter Williams and sister Katherine O’Connell. Mary Joan is predeceased by her husband Herbert Carlin, brothers Michael Williams and A. Joseph Williams. III and grandson Earl Scott Carlin.
Mary Joan was the eldest of five children born to Marian (nee Tripodi) and Allan J. Williams, Jr. She was raised in western New York surrounded by siblings and cousins before moving to Connecticut in the late 1960s. Mary Joan graduated from Quinnipiac University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Microbiology and later earned an MBA in Finance from the University of New Haven. Mary Joan worked from 1976 until her retirement in 2018 in the pharmaceutical industry starting in laboratory services and after leaving her position as a Vice President of Innovative Products, Quality Systems in 2014 to move closer to her daughter and grandchildren, she traveled the world as an expert in pharmaceutical quality assurance until fully retiring in 2018.
Mary Joan was an avid crafter, she loved knitting and had a side business for many years making sweaters; needlepoint making customized stocking for her children and grandchildren and quilting. She also enjoyed gardening and cooking meals for her large extended family.
A celebration of Mary Joan’s life will be held for family and friends at a later date, details will be shared once finalized.
In lieu of flowers, her family welcomes donations to be made in her name to The National Hemophilia Foundation at hemophilia.org or St. Jude Children’s Hospital at stjude.org.
Her family would like to thank the excellent staff of the Huntsville Hospital Heart Center, Heart Failure Clinic and most recently Hospice Family Care for their care and dedication above and beyond without which the last five years with our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt would not have been possible.
