Burton Slocum Chambers III, 82, of Madison, AL, passed away December 26, 2022, following a wonderful Christmas celebration with family. He was born September 11, 1940, to Leona (Coder) and Burton S. Chambers Jr. in Buffalo, NY. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Diana Marie Duncan Chambers; their children Clark Chambers (Seline), and Garrett Chambers, both of Madison; and daughters Suzanne Yates, Michelle Janczak, and Kathleen Chambers. He is also survived by his brother Paul (Mary Kay), four grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Carl Chambers (Constance), and one grandchild.
Burt’s career spanned nearly 50 years as a key contributor to numerous national defense programs. After completing a degree in Physics from SUNY Buffalo, he reported for active duty with the Air Force. During his service, he was among the first researchers to use computer technology to understand and predict complex physical phenomena. That experience set the path for the remainder of his career as a defense contractor and spurred his life-long passion for computers. During retirement he pursued his goal of developing software for Apple devices.
Burt was a gentle and kind father who was always in good spirits—cracking jokes even in the face of adversity. Burt loved his family dearly and will be missed by many.
