Russel Charles Jones

December 25, 1928 — December 15, 2022

After a long and well-lived life, Russel Charles (Russ) Jones passed away after a short illness on December 15, 2022, at the age of 93.

After serving in the US Army, Russ returned home in 1953 to marry his sweetheart, Patricia. They were married nearly 70 years and raised five children. Although originally from Iowa, Pat and Russ were long-time residents of Scottsboro, Alabama where they had many wonderful friends and were active in St. Jude’s parish. Russ was a former plant manager for Lozier Corporation, realtor and VA appraiser. His volunteer efforts included Habitat for Humanity and tax preparation. An avid card player and prodigious reader, Russ also enjoyed planning, planting, tending, harvesting and sharing a large vegetable garden.  He was proud of staying fit with friends at the Rec Com in Scottsboro – even to the age of 90. Favorite pastimes later in life were weekly billiards games with a close group of buddies, working puzzles, navigating his iPad, placing FaceTime calls, competitive bingo games and cheering for the Crimson Tide.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Elizabeth Jones, brother Francis and sisters Mary Jones (in infancy) and Rita McBride. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Gardiner), children Mary Warde, Teresa Methvin (Leslie), Karen Taylor (Danny), Richard (Jane), Sister Dolores Marie Jones, brother Ronald Jones, four grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Russ’ family, longtime friends and new friends made at Heritage Assisted Living in Madison will all miss his smile, delightful sense of humor and laughter.

There will be a private funeral Mass on Wednesday, December 21, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
