John Paul Atkinson

John Paul Atkinson, 84, died peacefully in his home surrounded by family on November 24, 2022, in Madison, AL after a prolonged struggle with dementia. John Paul was born in Huntsville, AL, the son of William Buford Atkinson and Mary Osborne Atkinson.

John Paul was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of over 50 years, Margaret Elaine Atkinson who he cared for deeply every day he could as she struggled with Type I Diabetes. John Paul was also predeceased by his parents and brother William Daniel Atkinson. John Paul was possessed of a generational wit, and a fantastic farmer, husband, father, and grandfather.

John Paul is survived by his children, son John Samuel Atkinson and daughter Amy Atkinson Garvin (Cress); his sister, Nancy Barnett; his grandchildren, John Wesley Atkinson (Kim), Wendy Marie Dunn (Mark), and Samantha Cypert Rosch (Jeston); and his great grandchildren, John Elias Atkinson, Cooper Kelton Dunn, Mia Brooke Dunn, and Skylar Jane Mendez.

Funeral and memorial services will be held privately and open to family only.
