Thomas Curtis Horton, 84, of Madison, Ala., passed away on Nov. 17, 2022.
Curtis was born May 14, 1938, in Pinson, Tenn. He grew up in Memphis, Germantown and Humboldt, Tenn., moving around several times as he was the son of a Methodist pastor.
He attended Lambuth College in Jackson, Tenn., and graduated with an electrical engineering degree from the University of Tennessee in 1962. He came to Huntsville after graduation to work for the Chrysler Corporation and General Electric during the space administration. He was part of a team of engineers who helped design the Saturn V Rocket. Later in his career, he worked in the automotive industry as an electrical engineer for Chrysler, obtaining a patent before retiring at age 62. He spent his retirement playing golf, watching Tennessee football, and enjoying time with his children and five granddaughters. He was a charter member of Asbury Church.
Curtis loved family and never missed his annual Horton Family Reunion in Milan, Tenn.
He is preceded in death by his parents, the late Rev. Robert Y. and Willie Mae Horton, and brothers John Robert Horton and David William Horton.
Curtis is survived by his brother Charles Edward Horton (Dixie) of Bartlett, Tenn., his daughter Camille Horton Gamble (Al) of Memphis, Tenn., his son William “Bill” Curtis Horton (Courtney) of Athens, Ala., and granddaughters Caroline Lee Gamble of Birmingham, Ala., Margaret “Maggie” McAlexander Gamble of Muscle Shoals, Ala., Olivia Horton Gamble of Austin, Texas, and Carson Camille Horton and Margaret “Meg” Merrill Horton of Athens, Ala. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Curtis will be laid to rest in a private burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Milan, Tenn.
