Earl Stanford Choate, 95, of Madison, Alabama passed away Friday, October 21, 2022.
Earl is preceded in death by his father Clarence Henry Choate, mother Margaret Edia West Choate, and son Mark Stanford Choate.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years Betty Jean Dupuy Choate, daughter Cathey Young (Chet), granddaughters Rebecca Lynn (Daniel), Morgan Burns (W.D.), grandson Austin Young (Claire), and 7 great grandchildren.
In 1956, Earl graducated with his B.S. Electrical Engineering at Christian Brothers College in Memphis, TN. Years later in 1984, Earl graduated with his M.S. Software Engineering in 1984 from Southeastern Institute of Technology.
Earl worked at Nasa from 1961-1981 as an Instrumentation Project Engineer. From 1981-1988 he provided his expertise to several contracting organizations. While at Nasa he worked on the Apollo, served as Lead Engineer on buildup of instrumentation for testing of Space Shuttle main engine, and the Skylab. His Best day at work was In 1967 when he and a colleague flew from Marshall Space Flight Center to NASA's Mississippi Test Facility, found the source of an error that had been plaguing a series of tests, and then flew back in the same day. The tests were of a portion of the first stage of the Saturn 5 rocket. For this effort he received a commendation.
Earl had many hobbies including hiking, working at his farm in Stella, TN, managing timber at his tree farm in Mississippi, traveling with his family, home improvement projects, cheering on his favorite baseball team the Atlanta Braves, and spending time with his family.
