George Ellis, Jr.

George Ellis Jr., 94, of Harvest, Alabama passed away on Monday, June 20, 2022.

He was born May 27, 1928, in Kemper, Kentucky to George Ellis Sr. and Bessie Yates.  He was the youngest of George Sr. and Bessie’s four children.  He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954.  George earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at University of Kentucky in 1959.

After graduation, his career as an Electrical Engineer started in Kentucky, then took him to Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Australia, and Bermuda.  From 1978 to 1983, he worked for the U.S. Navy as Supervisory Maintenance and General Engineer in Yokosuka, Japan where he met Noriko Yamagata.  George and Noriko married in 1980, and moved to Panama in 1982.  Desiring to work and travel in Europe, he moved to Germany and worked for the U.S. Army as Supervisory Industrial and General Engineer from 1983 to 1988.  He returned to the U.S., and resided in Harvest Alabama with Noriko, and worked for Army Corps of Engineers in Huntsville until his retirement in 1989.

In his retirement years, George enjoyed living in Harvest with Noriko, feeding wild birds and gardening.  He loved his pets; dogs, cats, a robin, and a chicken, and enjoyed watching movies and reading books, especially history.  He was a mathematician, engineer, and wild animal rescue enthusiast.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Bessie, brother Herford Ellis, two sisters, Ora Blackburn, and Marie Williamson, and two sons, Deron Ellis, and John Ellis.  George is survived by his wife, Noriko Ellis, stepdaughter, Eriko Ellis of Madison, son, David Ellis of Missouri, daughter, Carna Snedeker of Delaware, and two grandchildren, Christopher Lore and Gil Lore.

Legacy Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory will host visitation on Saturday, June 25, 2022, from 10:00AM – 11:00 AM. The burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.

His life and memory will live on forever.
