It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Buford Edward Rowe age 83 of Knoxville, TN on April 23, 2022.
Buford was born on April 8, 1939 in Patterson, VA to the late Arch Lee and Vergie Mae Matney Rowe. He was a graduate of West Virginia Tech and worked as a Chemical Engineer before attending the West Virginia University School of Medicine. He practiced for over 30 years as an anesthesiologist in Knoxville first at Park West Hospital and then spending most of his career at St. Mary’s Hospital. He loved college basketball and football. He was especially a fan of the UT Vols and the WV Mountaineers. He had such a passion for music, and he had quite a collection of hymnals and albums. He loved the Lord and his family and lived a life of faith, generosity, gentleness, humility, and sincere gratitude. He battled Alzheimer’s for over 8 years. He had been able to be in his own home in Knoxville with his brother-in-law and with Caregivers assisting. However, in February 2021, it became necessary to move him to Heritage Memory Care in Madison, AL. His daughter, Suzanne, was with him as he passed peacefully on the evening of April 23, 2022.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Stan Wareing Rowe, his brother Lacey Rowe and Lacey’s wife, Mabel, and by his brother-in-law, Joe Thompson.

Granddaughter: Catherine Curry
Siblings: Virginia Rowe Thompson of Huntington, WV, Donald and Carlton (Lipscomb) Rowe of King George, VA, Tom and Sally (Maier) Rowe of Sugar Land, TX, and Brother-in-law, Charles Wareing of Knoxville, TN.
