Deacon Chanley P. Pickard Sr. was born on May 14, 1971 to the late Cherry E. Pickard and Robert C. Battle in Salem, Alabama. After graduating from Apopka High School in 1990, he went on to join the United States Army. After 22 years of service in the United States Army, he became the Sexual Assault Response Program coordinator for the Garrison at the Redstone Arsenal. He was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of loved ones and always tried his best to support them. Anyone who knew him knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert C. Battle; mother, Cherry E. Pickard; and grandparents: Roger Pickard, Myrtice Pickard, and J.C. Battle. Survivors include his wife of over 28 years, Pamela Pickard of Athens, AL; three children Keandre Pickard of Apopka, FL, Breanna Pickard of Athens, AL, and Chanley P. Pickard II of Athens, AL; siblings Anthony Jones of Apopka, FL, Henry Pickard (Miasha) of Apopka, FL, Jay Pickard (Starterea) of Apopka, FL, Tony Adkins (Regina) of Salem, AL, Tawanda Battle of Salem, AL, Travis Battle of Salem, AL, and Trelleny Battle of Salem, AL; grandmother Mamie Lee Battle of Salem, AL; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
