November 18, 1948 ~ August 20, 2021 (Age 72)
Carl Thomas Walker, Jr., 72, of Madison, Alabama went on to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, August 20, 2021. To some he was Carl, to others he was “Junebug.” He was a husband, father, grandfather and dear friend to so many.
His quick wit, infectious smile and magnetic personality made everyone he met feel special. Carl graduated from Butler High School in 1967 and attended the University of Alabama where he became a forever “Roll Tide” fan. One of his prouder moments was quarterbacking the 1966 Butler football team playing against Huntsville High School. The Butler team was coached by John Meadows and played before the largest crowd ever to see a football game in Huntsville. Carl would want you to know Butler won 20-17.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, he worked for over 25 years in the restaurant business. Upon retiring, he continued dedicating his life to serving others. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Manna House Food Pantry and Mended Hearts. He enjoyed playing golf and most recently, pickleball. His passion though was being a Greeter every Sunday morning at Church of the Highlands. He welcomed you with open arms and made you feel as you were the most important person in the world. Carl loved Jesus, his family and his friends wholeheartedly, and he always had a smile on his face
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl T. and Carolyn Walker, his daughter, Kathryn “Katie” Carroll, and his sister, Rita Kay Nye. He is survived by the love of his life, Laura; daughter, Stewart Soto (Rodney); Step-daughter, Lia Brown (Ricky); Step-son, Jeff Crane; sisters, Sherry Dinges & Diane Winn (Ronald); brother, Tommy Walker (Leslie); eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
