Robert Joseph Shar

Robert “Bob” Joseph Shar went down hard on December 28.

Bob, sometimes known as Boob, was born in Detroit, Michigan, the second of nine children. He developed a love for motorcycles at an early age, working at the neighborhood shop and in his father’s garage. His first bike was a 1973 Honda 450. Over the years, he collected various sports bikes (crotch rockets), BMWs (airheads), and all things with two wheels. He was a longtime member of the BMW MOA and Alabeemers Club. He loved spending his free time riding with friends. Throughout his life he spent time outdoors with his family camping, fishing, and shooting bow.

Bob’s knowledge of science and math led him to a career in Water Management. He retired in 2017 after working for 39 years, first retiring from the City of Detroit, MI and later from the City of Athens, AL.

He is survived by his wife Claudia Aiken Shar of 48 years; children Christian (Heather), Justin (Mary), Carli (Thomas), Cecelia (Ted), and Zachary Shar-D’Angelo; grandchildren Michael, Rachel, Katherine, Riley, and Aiken; siblings Frank (Marilyn), Victoria, Carol, Michael (Ann), Mary, Laura; 16 nieces and nephews and additional loved ones. Robert is proceeded by his father Frank Anthony, mother Nancy J Busser, brother Gerard, and sister Jennifer.

His legacy will have been his love for his family, and his good natured affection for his friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
