MAJ (RET) Charles Richard "Dick" Bruer, age 77, passed away on December 15, 2020.
Dick was born in Union City, TN on December 3, 1943 to Carmen Ann Cockrill and Charles Edward Bruer. The family moved to Jackson, TN where Dick would spent his formative years graduating from Jackson High School in 1961. He continued his education, receiving his Bachelors from Memphis State University in 1965. He also received a Masters Degree from Central Michigan University.
In 1966, Dick joined the United States Air Force. During the Vietnam War, he flew on the B-52 bomber serving as the Electronic Warfare Officer. While stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, he met and married Sally Sigler in 1972. During his 20 year tenure, Dick received numerous awards, medals and Commendations, which included the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Meritorious Service Medal. Following his retirement from Active Duty in 1986, Dick moved his family to Alabama where he would spend the next 24 years working as a civilian contractor for Boeing Aerospace Company
Dick was an avid birdwatcher who loved his birding trips and being with his fellow birdwatchers. He loved photography and took hundreds of pictures to get just the one he wanted. He was also an award winning wood carver of realistic birds and ducks.
Dick Bruer is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sally Sigler Bruer, his daughter, Elizabeth Bruer, his son Christopher (Teresa) Bruer and his sister Annette (Brent) Tarver. Also his 7 grandchildren, Chase, Andrew, Danielle, Aedan, Elijah, Mathieu, and Oliver and his two great grandchildren, Chase Jr (CJ) and Ember.
There will be a graveside service at Maple Hill Cemetery Sunday, December 20, 2020.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his honor to the National Kidney Foundation.
