Rachel Garmany Muir was a devoted child of God and the heart of her family. She loved drinking a cup of coffee, reading a good book, playing the piano, seeing new places, and being with her family.
Rachel was born in Anniston, AL on May 6, 1939 to Charlie and Oathel Garmany. The oldest daughter of six children, Rachel always had an adventurous spirit. She adored her older brother and babied her younger siblings, but was known to stand her ground if pushed...one event, involving a discussion of “whose pig was bigger,” is a family classic. In 1958, Rachel met her husband, Bob (Elgin) Muir, in Oneonta, AL. They were quickly inseparable and had a short courtship. They were married on February 8, 1959 and were together over 60 years.
Rachel was a gifted pianist, using that God-given talent throughout her life. Starting as a young girl, she would play and sing whenever asked, often traveling with her Uncle Hollis as he preached. She would go on to play for untold weddings, funerals, gospel recordings, Christmas musicals, and other community events. However, over the many decades, her favorite times to play were for a spontaneous sing-along with family or church on Sunday mornings.
One of Rachel’s greatest joys was being able to travel. Rachel wanted to go anywhere that she could, and as long as she had her family with her, that is what she did. One of her favorite accomplishments was being able to visit all 50 states, Canada, and Mexico with Bob.
She is survived, loved, and missed by her daughter, Melissa Muir Taylor; her sons, Robert Muir and John (Vicky) Muir; her grandchildren, Jacob Muir, Emily Muir, Will (Nicole) Taylor, Grant Taylor, Colby (Danielle) Muir, Rachel Muir, Codie (Lauren) Wallace, and Candace (Seth) Cameron; her great-grandchildren, Hayden Taylor, Juliette Taylor, Cohen Cameron, Avie Leigh Wallace, and Asher Ray Wallace; as well as her siblings, Joe (Judy) Garmany, Mary Griffith, and Wiley (Gwen) Garmany, many nieces and nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers, Wayne Garmany and Michael Garmany.
