Lydia J. Sherwood

October 9, 1934 — March 1, 2020

Lydia, 85, of Madison, AL, passed away peacefully on March 1st, after a brief illness. She was surrounded by members of her earthly family as she joined God and her heavenly family wrapped in the loving arms of Jesus and Mary. Lydia’s passing in March, the month of St. Joseph, earthy father of Jesus Christ and patron saint of families and of a peaceful and holy death, answered many prayers.

Lydia is survived by her children, Darralyn Williams (Lee) and Robert Martin “Marty” Sherwood (Carla); her brother, Richard Zepeda (Carolyn); two grandchildren, Amburlyn Sherwood and Benjamin Sherwood (Stephanie) and seven great grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Robert (Bob) Clarke Sherwood, her parents, four brothers, and one sister.

Lydia was born October 9, 1934, to Federico and Sarah Zepeda in San Antonio, Texas.

She was a wife, mother, and homemaker who loved her family. She expressed this love by supporting her career Air Force husband and their two children as the family travelled the globe. She enjoyed traveling, reading, riding motorcycles with her husband and friends, and loved life.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Joy ChalisseryThursday, March 12, 2020, at 11:00 am, St. John’s Catholic Church, 1055 Hughes Road, Madison, AL.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 am.  She will be buried alongside her husband at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.
