Violet Arbeatrice Cunningham

Violet Arbeatrice Cunningham, originally of Bethel Park Pennsylvania, passed away in Madison Alabama, Sunday December 29, 2019,  at the age of 80.  She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Harlan Cunningham, her parents Joseph Edward Hayman and Florence Brown Hayman, all of her brothers and all but one sister, Ida Hayman Cominsky of Rayland, Ohio.  

She is survived by her daughter Rochelle Cunningham, granddaughter Rayme and grandson Ryan of Madison, Alabama as well as Violet’s son Frederick and his wife Jenny, of Kwajalein.   

Violet touched many lives over the course of her multiple tours as a military spouse, working over seas and building friendships and sports teams with ease.  After Harlan retired from the military, the family made their home on Kwajalein, Republic of the Marshall Islands.  Violet was an avid fisherwoman, (the best fishing captain on the atoll according to her), golfer, bowler and softball player, but also a cornerstone of the varied communities on Kwajalein.  Violet and Harlan’s back patio was always a welcome place to stop and chat, both for their children’s friends and their own fishing buddies.  She was warm and loving whether she’d known you a year or 10 minutes and wouldn’t hesitate to tell you whatever was on her mind, especially if you disagreed on the finer points of Ahi fishing or golf. 

Violet will be achingly missed by those touched by her kindness and humor.  Her children and grandchildren, and all who knew her will carry forward the love she shared with the world in their hearts.  She was definitely one of a kind.

A celebration of Life will be held Monday, January 6 2020: 

The Legacy Chapel  16 Hughes Road, Madison, 35758

5-6 will be visitation and 6-7 will be the service.  

If so inclined, the family has asked that instead of sending flowers, donations may be made in Violet’s name to the American Lung Association.
