Mable Barkley Sexton

On December 15, 2019, Mable Louise Barkley Sexton, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many passed away at the age of 89. Mable was born June 15, 1930 to Birtie and John Barkley of Madison, AL. She was married to the late Frank Joe Sexton, also of Madison, AL. Mable was one of eight children; Dick, Margie, Ruby, Glenn, Billy, Gene (all deceased) and Wayne.

Mable graduated from Madison High as Salutatorian and was voted most beautiful in her Sr. Class. She was also Class Secretary and a Cheerleader for her High School. She received her B.S. in Education from Athens State College and made a positive impact on many young lives as an elementary school teacher for many years in both Limestone County and Athens City Schools.

Mable had a passion for gardening and dancing, she enjoyed painting later in life and was very active in her Church at Madison United Methodist, continuing to teach bible study up until her very final years. She was known for her very selfless nature and generous heart and her wonderful Southern cooking!! She will be missed by not only her family but many other close relatives and friends.

 Mable is survived in death by her two children Tony Sexton (wife-Martha Sexton) and Sherry Sexton Pruett, (Husband-Edwin Pruett); her three granddaughters, Lindsay, Leslie and Meagan and her four Great-Grandchildren; Carter, Reeves, Owen and Ellison and several nieces and nephews. Mable is preceded in death by her grandson Hunter Ryan Sexton. 

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 2:00PM. visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00PM at Legacy Chapel Funeral Home, 16 Hughes Road, Madison, AL 35758. In death as in life her giving nature is reflected by her request that in lieu of flowers, she requested donations in her honor be made to Huntsville Assistance Program, 1001 Monroe Street SW, Huntsville, Alabama 35801, 256-539-2320.
