Joe Murphy Waggoner, 79, of Madison, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord on December 7, 2019.
He joined the army after high school and served in the National Guard for six years. While in college studying to be a minister, he received his honorable discharge.
He served as a pastor and worked in the ministry for 38 years, his first church being in Bossier City, Louisiana, and the last one in Derby, Kansas. He was a very compassionate man and enjoyed hosting missionaries in his home. After retiring from the pastorate, he continued to preach in many churches and served in his home church in the visitation ministry, the nursing home ministry, the music ministry, teaching college, and vacation bible school.
He loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren. He enjoyed making things, like puppets, walking sticks, and polishing driftwood. He also enjoyed playing games.
He is survived by his wife of 58 ½ years, Sylvia Waggoner; his daughters, Grace and her husband Hal Winn, Joy and her husband Jim Green; his brothers Kenneth, Jackie, and Jerry Waggoner; his sister Mary David; 9 grandchildren; and 4 great grandsons. He is preceded in death by his parents, Cooper and Maybell Waggoner; his son, Joe Waggoner, Jr.; and his brothers, Bobby and Buddy Waggoner.
