On Saturday, November 23, 2019, Hugh David Kelly, loving husband of one, proud father of two, blessed grandfather of three, and doting great-grandfather of five passed away at the age of 91. David was born on June 1, 1928 in Scottsboro, AL to the late John Frank Kelly and Sue Maples Kelly. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a member of the U.S. Air Force in Occupied Japan. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the Alabama Polytechnic Institute, known today as Auburn University. His distinguished career as a fishery biologist began with the state of Alabama and ended with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service, in Auburn, Alabama where he played an instrumental part in the development of the multimillion dollar fish farming industry in the state of Alabama. On September 16, 1951, David married Betty Nell Johnson. They raised two children, a daughter Leigh Ann and a son David Mark. David was known by all to be a true southern gentleman. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his daughter, Leigh Ann. He is survived by his wife Betty, his son Mark and his wife Becky, three grandchildren, Jacob Kelly and wife Tara of Harvest, Alabama, Joseph Kelly and wife Laura of Memphis, Tennessee, and Julie Mobley and husband David of Madison, Alabama, one great-grandson and four great-granddaughters, and a brother William F. Kelly and wife, Betty Dean of Hartselle, Alabama and several cousins and nephews. David was a member of the Madison Church of Christ in Madison, Alabama.
