Michael Lynn Carr, 91, of Madison, AL, passed away on Wednesday November 13, 2019. Mike was born on August 1, 1928 to Mose and Lillie Carr and became affectionately known as ML. He was the oldest of three siblings. Always a good student, Mike went on to receive degrees from the university of West Alabama, Vanderbilt and his doctorate from Auburn University. He chose to work in the field of education for the next 58 years. After his service in the Army, Mike went to work as a teacher, then principal at Southside School in Dallas County. He remained there for the next 15 years. During which time he became a beloved Boy Scout Troup Leader. In 1971, he became Superintendent-Principal at the Dependents School at Maxwell AFB, where he remained for the next 25 years. He served in leadership roles in national and statewide professional organizations too numerous to list. He received CLAS State Leadership Award, SACS Distinguished Education Leadership Award, Alabama Education Hall of Fame Award and NAESP National Distinguished Principal and numerous others.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, his brother James, and his sister Lois Devore. Mike is survived by his wife of 30 years, Diana; daughter, Vanessa Marchetti and many friends and family whose life he has touched. His Kindness, generosity, and loving Christian spirit served as an inspiration to anyone who knew him.
A memorial service is planned for Sunday, December 1st at 2:00pm at the Union United Methodist Church, 3471 CR 67, Selma, Alabama.
