The youngest member of our family, Steven tragically passed away in Alabama on Thursday, 15 August 2019. Born at Fort Belvoir, Virginia on 2 March 1987, he was 32 years old.
Steven had just returned to our family home from California the previous week. While he loved his time in California, he came back to complete the final classes for his bachelor's degree in sociology. He planned to return to California to pursue a master's in counseling, and to work with those who had helped him.
Incredibly smart with a witty sense of humor, he was a lifelong lover of all animals, but had an especially soft spot in his heart for cats. Those who were lucky enough to have known him may recall the memorial tattoo on his forearm of our first family cat - Mr. Kitty. You could always count on Steven for the most thoughtful gifts - not huge or expensive, but he would always put a lot of thought into what you would like or enjoy - and he always hit the nail on the head. Steven was passionate about helping others. This is likely what drove him towards becoming an addiction counselor, a goal he was so very close to achieving. Steven had a huge, tender heart and the perfect mischievous grin.
Steven leaves behind his parents, Judy and Greg Parlier, his brother Tim, and sister and brother-in-law Bryan and Jamie Adams. He is survived by his grandmothers (Beverly Olson and Kathleen Parlier) as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to two causes that were very dear to Steven's heart - animal rescue and addiction treatment. One of the non-profits we have selected is Nashville Cat Rescue, as they brought two of Steven's favorite 'nephews' into our family.
