Richard Lester Watson, age 59, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on January 23, 2019. He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University and a master's degree in software engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Richard was a brave, brilliant, generous person who loved and gave to his family and friends freely. His biggest loves were his family and the outdoors where he spent countless hours thinking deeply and riding his bicycle, motorcycle, ATV, and hiking with his best friend Randy.
He spent his life working hard and learning as much as he could, and encouraged others to be the best versions of themselves. While he was often a quiet person, those who knew him well fondly recall his dry, witty sense of humor and his intellectual conversations.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sandra Watson, his children, Christopher Watson (Mary Elizabeth) of Washington, D.C. and Kelly Watson of Birmingham, AL, his sister Belinda Watson Thomas (Brian) and her children Jacob Thomas (Jessie), Elizabeth Pendergrass (David), and Sarah Keenum (Henson). He is remembered by his lifelong friends Randy and Kathy Forsythe. He was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Elizabeth Watson.
Visitation will be at Legacy Chapel Funeral Home on Saturday, January 26 from 4-6 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Land Trust of North Alabama at
