Mary Ann Crutcher Cantrell was born March 20, 1937 and died peacefully at home on October 26, 2018. She is preceded in death by her husband Franklin D. Cantrell, Sr. and her parents, Richard O. and Lelon Crutcher.
Mary Ann is survived by her children, Wendy Lynn Cantrell; Franklin D. (Frankie) Cantrell, Jr.; Daughter-in-Law Susan Cole Cantrell; and her two granddaughters, Elizabeth Brooks Cantrell and Emma Cole Cantrell. She is also survived by her brother Donald Ray Crutcher (wife Bettye) and Richard O. (Dickey) Crutcher, Jr. (wife Anna); Sister-in-law, Nancy Carson Cantrell, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
Mary Ann is a native of Madison County and graduated from Butler High School in 1955, where she was Homecoming Queen and a majorette. Mary Ann married Franklin D. Cantrell on April 12, 1958 and they were married for over 51 years. In the early days of the space program, she worked at NASA for Dr. Werner Von Braun’s Public Affairs Offices as an administrative assistant and later for the Army Corps of Engineers in the Director’s office.
She was a long-time member of the West Huntsville Church of Christ and in more recent years attended Mayfair Church of Christ with her children and grandchildren.
Our family would like to thank our church, friends and family that have supported us throughout the past year of Mary Ann’s life. Thank you to Dr. Butch Kinzer for his expertise, experience, as well as his friendship to our Mother. To caregivers, Lisa Bright and Tiny Outlin – you are angels on earth and we were blessed to have you lovingly care for our Mother. Special thanks to Huntsville Hospital Wound Center, Home Health and Hospice Family Care. May God richly bless the sacred work you do as medical professionals for it is a calling to be admired.
