Hillard F. Crosswhite, 78, passed away September 15, 2018. He was born in Leighton, AL to Harvey Fernando Crosswhite and Willie Laura Adams. He lived in Alabama until he enlisted in the US Marine Corps at age 18. He served two tours in Vietnam, was a drill instructor at Parris Island, attended the Sergeant Majors Academy at Fort Bliss, and retired after 26 years of service as a Master Gunnery Sergeant in October, 1984. He was an avid golfer, bowler, racquetball player, softball and football enthusiast, and loved to take cruises. After working for the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard HQ for 14 years, he returned to Alabama in 2002 to enjoy retirement. He met his wife while serving at the Inspector Instructor Staff in Boston, MA and they were married in 1975.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ann Marie Boucher Crosswhite; his daughters Melinda (Mike) Bearden and Sandra (Scott) Slater; 2 grandchildren, Austin and Cassie Bearden; his brother, David Crosswhite, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Crosswhite and sisters, Rachel Iona Slaten and Bonnie May Hall.
Visitation will be held at the Legacy Chapel on Hughes Road, on Thursday, September 20, from 6-8 p.m. with memorial service to be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Friday, September 21, beginning with visitation at 10 a.m. and funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Good Shepherd Catholic Church columbarium in a private family service.
