Larry W. Drape, 73, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2018 in Huntsville, AL.
Larry was born on April 5, 1945 to Marlin James Drape and Lois Lee Gifford in New Hampton, IA. He is survived by his wife Brenda Drape, son Terry Drape, daughter Krystine Drape-Manley and 3 grandchildren Asya, Dylan and Jayda.
Upon graduating from Upper Iowa University, he was immediately drafted into the US Army. In 1968, while stationed in South Korea, he met Yi Pok Chae (Brenda Drape) and later married in 1970. He was a proud, loving and supportive father to 2 children.
Larry admirably served 25 years in the U.S. Army and 24 years in Civil Service. In 2004, he bravely completed a 6 month tour in Afghanistan. He was also a respectable 32nd degree Mason with the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonry of the Southern Jurisdiction. He was a dedicated and loyal servant to his country.
Larry enjoyed the outdoors and being in the sun. From an early age, he and his 3 siblings (Dawn, Kayle, and Milo) performed regularly in water skiing shows. While in the Army, he became an avid golfer. As retirement approached, he would take every opportunity to plan a road trip. He would regularly hop on his Trike for a short drive to get a breath of fresh air. Throughout the years and change in hobbies, one thing always remained the same, his passion for his family.
He is loved and respected by everyone he knew and will be missed dearly.
