William H. Lewis III

March 23, 1948 — May 11, 2018

William (Bill) H. Lewis III, (70), of Madison passed away peacefully Friday May 11, 2018, at home, with family members by his side.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Thomas Lewis; his son, William H Lewis IV (Viki) of Mansfield, TX.; and daughters Milly Lewis Wells, and Amy Lewis Bell, both of Madison, AL.; Mother,  Voncile Downs(TL) of Athens, AL.; Father, William H. Lewis Jr (Doris) of Hollywood, FL.; sisters, Linda David (Michael) of Midlothian, VA.; and Annette Lewis of Athens, AL.; six grandchildren, Willie and Jayson Wells, Breanna Pierluissi, Cora and William (Gus) H. Lewis V and Hayden Bell; One Great-Grandchild, Ayden Chopin; Four nephews, Danny and Matthew David, Tommy and Anthony Lewis and a host of friends that were like family to him.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William H. Lewis Sr. and Emily Lewis, his brother Thomas Robert Lewis, and his mentor and dear friend, William G. Jackson.

Bill was a kind, loving, giving, brilliant and well-respected man.  In his early years he worked for South Central Bell, he was a police officer in Hialeah, Fl. In 1974, he went to work for Satellite Systems/Redstone Cable TV Company, where he was responsible for building and managing the cable service to Redstone Arsenal, 1978, City of Madison, 1983, the over-build of Huntsville and Madison County which later became Cable Alabama Corporation. He took his work to heart and was always a "hands on" type of guy, never asking anyone to do anything that he wouldn't do himself. He also managed cable systems in Missouri and Illinois. In 2003, he and Linda moved to Arizona, where he handled the rebuild of the cable system in Wickenburg. They were living in Mesa, AZ when he was first diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, which forced him to retire in 2005. He battled Parkinson's for 15 years, in which he never complained. He always made people laugh and is known in the family for the nicknames that he gave to all of them. He loved his family and will be missed so much by all who knew him, perhaps even more so during football season, as he was a diehard fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide. The family would like to thank the staff of Kindred Hospice, especially his nurses, Kayla and Debra, and his Aid Christine, for providing excellent care to both Mr. Lewis and his family during his final weeks of life.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 19 at Legacy Chapel Funeral Home, 16 Hughes Rd, Madison, AL 35758, at 6:30pm with Visitation starting at 5:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made in memory of Mr. Lewis, to Kindred Hospice of Huntsville, AL, 5000 Bradford Drive NW, Suite 3A, Huntsville, AL 35805.
