Cheryl L. Jones, 54, of Huntsville, AL. passed away Wednesday March 21, 2018.

Mrs. Cheryl Jones assumed her current duties as Acquisition Manager for the Systems Simulation, Software, and Integration Directorate of the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Research, Development, and Engineering Center in July 2016. She is responsible for advising leadership on contracting strategy and issues, assisting with the development of requirements for major acquisitions, and acting as liaison between AMRDEC and its supporting contracting offices.

 Prior to her current appointment, she served as Senior Procurement Analyst for Headquarters, U.S. Army Contracting Command from January 2011 through July 2016; Deputy Director, Contractor Support Services at Missile Defense Agency from October 2009 through January 2011; Contracting Officer and Contract Specialist, Missile Defense Agency from January 2008 through October 2009; Business Operations Branch Chief, US Army Corps of Engineers, Engineering & Support Center, Huntsville from January 2007 to January 2008; and as Contracting Officer/ Team Leader, US Army Corps of Engineers, Engineering & Support Center, Huntsville from February 2004 to January 2007.

Mrs. Jones attended the University of South Carolina, graduating in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing. Mrs. Jones earned a Master’s Degree in Management Sciences from California State University, Hayward in1992. Mrs. Jones is a graduate of the2015-2016 Defense Acquisition University Senior Service College Fellowship Program and the Program Manager’s Course (PMT 401). She graduated from the U.S. Naval Officer’s Candidate School in 1986 and the U.S. Supply Corps School in 1987.

In 1987, Mrs. Jones was assigned to the USS Samuel Gompers (AD-37) as an Assistant Supply Officer. In 1989, she served as the Assistant Head of Material Management Department at Naval Hospital, Oakland, responsible for contracting and logistics. As a Naval Reservist, Mrs. Jones was assigned to the Defense Contracting Management Area Office, San Bruno, CA in 1990 and to a Voluntary Training Unit in Okinawa, Japan in 1992. Mrs. Jones served as a civilian Contract Specialist/ Contracting Officer with Communications Electronic Command Acquisition Center in 1996. In 1999, she was assigned as an Administrative Contracting Officer supporting several NATO Host Nation Agreements at the Army Material Command Combat Equipment Group-Europe. Mrs. Jones transferred in 2000 to the Wiesbaden Contracting Center, Germany to support a Variety of EUCOM programs as a Procurement Analyst, Contracting Officer, and Contingency Contracting Officer.

In 2015, Mrs. Jones received the Army Superior Civilian Service Award. In 2002, she was awarded the Secretary of the Army Excellence in Contracting Award for Outstanding Contracting Officer (Civilian) in Contingency Contracting for FY 2001. In 2005, she was appointed to the Army Acquisition Corps and is certified at Level III in Contracting and Level I in Program Management. Mrs. Jones lives in Madison, AL with her husband, Michael. They have one son Jordan, who is earning a PhD in Atlanta, GA.
