Martha Ann Gross

August 24, 1934 — January 30, 2018

Martha Ann Gross, 83, was welcomed to her heavenly home on January 30th, 2018. Those who knew her best will always remember her gracious and joyful spirit, devotion to her family, and sincere faith in God.

Martha was born to Stephen and Rubye Gafford in Birmingham, Alabama on August 24th, 1934. She married her sweetheart, Jack Gross, on April 8th, 1954. She and Jack soon became parents to four beautiful children: Donald, Cathi, Julie, and Michael; and their family moved to Madison, Alabama in July of 1964. She passed down her faith in God and tender spirit to her children and touched countless lives through her generous hospitality over the years. She and Jack had such a heart for children, and in addition to lovingly raising their four offspring, they also spent several years as foster parents to children needing a loving temporary home.

Martha and her family were well-known and beloved in the Madison area for their kind generosity, loving hospitality, involvement with the Madison Church of Christ, and the eighteen years she spent working with the Madison Academy Bookstore. It wasn’t uncommon for “Aunt Marcie” and “Uncle Jack” to host young couples and families in their home for Sunday Dinners offering fellowship and mentorship to so many. Countless lives were made better by gathering at her dinner table.

Martha is survived by her husband, Jack; her sister Juanita Scott and brother-in-law Leelon “Scotty” Scott; her daughter-in-law Pam Gross; her daughter Cathi Harless and son-in-law Joe Harless; her daughter Julie Dewberry and son-in-law Doug Dewberry; her son Michael; her grandchildren, Melissa Flanagan (and husband Patrick Flanagan), Brian Gross (and wife Rachel Gross), Chase Dewberry (and wife Caroline Dewberry), Brianna Dewberry, Reid Dewberry, and Andrew Harless; and her great grandchildren, Tillie and Molly Flanagan. She is preceded in death by her parents Stephen and Rubye Gafford; and her son Donald Gross.

Visitation for Martha will be hosted at Madison Church of Christ beginning at 12:30 pm on Friday, February 2nd, 2018, followed immediately by her funeral beginning at 2:00 pm. Ministers Mike Winkler, E R Brannan, and Randy Pyle will officiate the service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of Martha’s favorite ministries:

“In Search of the Lord’s Way”—a television ministry she and Jack watched together every Sunday morning. Donations can be mailed to “In Search of the Lord’s Way”, P.O. Box 371, Edmond, OK 73083 or can be made online at searchtv.org/formmemorialhonor.html
