Cyril J Kaliszak

April 6, 1934 — December 16, 2017

Cyril J. Kaliszak (Cy) passed away peacefully at home after an extended illness on December 16, 2017.  He was born on April 6, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of the late John and Victoria Jarmolowicz Kaliszak.  On October 15, 1960 he married Dorothy Ann Pawloski in St. Peter’s Church in Utica, New York.  Shortly after their marriage, they relocated to Erie, PA where they raised their family and were active members of Our Lady of Mt.  Carmel Catholic Church. Cy graduated from Alliance College in Cambridge Springs, PA and worked at Erie Resistor in Erie, PA. Cy then served in the United States Army.  He began a job as a statistician at General Electric’s Light Military operation in Utica, NY before transferring to GE’s DC Motor Division in Erie, PA, where he was employed until his retirement. He spent many years playing basketball through elementary, high school and college.  He was an avid fisherman, hunter, camper and all-around outdoor person.  Cy was involved in swimming as a coach on the elementary and high school levels and officiated for many years in the YMCA Swim Program. Cy was fortunate to be able to pass on his love for these activities to his children and grandchildren, all of whom share his love of the outdoors, hunting and fishing.  All of his children and grandchildren swam, or still swim, competitively. His survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dorothy; his sons Michael Kaliszak and his wife Sandy of Mattawan, MI; Dr. John Kaliszak and his wife Kim of Madison, AL; and a daughter Christina Fuhrman and her husband Michael of Erie, PA.  Eight grandchildren also survive, Tyler, Zachary, Lucas, Matthew and Sara Kaliszak, Jessica Alkema, and Erich and Eliot Fuhrman.  Two sisters-in-law, Toni Kaliszak and Jerri Kobielski and a brother-in-law, Robert Pawloski also survive.  He was predeceased by a brother, Victor Kaliszak and brother-in-law, Edwin Kobielski.  Many nieces and nephews also survive. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Madison at 12 Noon on Tuesday, December 19 with visitation at 11:00 A.M.  Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice. The family wishes to thank the Hospice team, neighbors and friends for their compassion and support.
