Dr. Jack Donald (Don) Gross II, 61, “finished his race” and was welcomed to his heavenly home on November 27th, 2017 after fighting a valiant battle with cancer. He will be remembered most for his deep devotion and loyalty to his faith in God, his family, and his friends. Don was born to Jack and Martha Gross in Birmingham, Alabama on May 15th, 1956. He became a Christian at an early age and devoted his life to service to Christ. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, obtained his Doctorate, and received his Masters Degree in Business. He opened his dental practice in Huntsville in 1985 and operated it for over 32 years. He was loved by his staff and his patients, who often considered him like family. Don was a family man through and through. He married his best friend and high school sweetheart, Pamela (Pam) Laird, on November 21st, 1975 in Huntsville, Alabama. Don was a loving father to his two children Melissa and Brian, and taught them with love, leadership, and laughter. He passed down his deep faith in God to his children, who continue to carry on his legacy in passion for ministries of their own. Don loved to be active—snow skiing, running, and biking were some of his favorite activities. He loved to teach—he was a beloved Bible Class teacher and former Elder and Deacon at local congregations. And he loved his family—he created lasting memories and traditions that endeared his family to him and created an unbreakable bond between them. He also loved being a grandfather to his two granddaughters Tillie and Molly—no one adored Don quite like they did, and the feeling was mutual. Don is survived by his wife, Pam; his daughter Melissa Flanagan and son-in-law Patrick Flanagan; his son Brian Gross and daughter-in-law Rachel Gross; his grandchildren Tillie Flanagan, and Molly Flanagan; his sisters Cathi Harless and Julie Dewberry and his brother-in-laws Joe Harless and Doug Dewberry; his brother Mike; and his parents Jack and Martha Gross. Visitation for Don will be hosted at Legacy Chapel in Madison at 5-8 pm on November 29th and will lie in state at Madison Church of Christ from 1-2 pm on November 30th. Don’s Celebration of Life will be hosted at Madison Church of Christ at 2 pm on November 30th, immediately after visitation. Family Minister Brandon Pressnell, Brian Gross, Patrick Flanagan, and Joe Harless will officiate the service.
