Lon David “Preach” Flurer, (CW4, US Army, Ret) of Huntsville (formerly of Ozark, AL) died Thursday morning, September 21, 2017 at his home. He was 70.Lon was born January 9, 1947 in Pennsylvania and lived the early years of life there. He was a retired Chief Warrant Officer who served in Viet Nam and various locations around the world. His military career took him to Ft. Rucker, Alabama where he was an instructor at the Warrant Officer Career College. He retired from the USAWOCC as Chief of Academic Operations. He was a member of the First UMC of Ozark, Alabama before moving to Huntsville where he joined and was a very active member of Asbury United Methodist Church. He loved his family, being outdoors and riding his Victory motorcycle. He is predeceased by his parents, Rev. Francis Flurer and Rhea Stutzman Flurer. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Flurer of Huntsville; his children, Tanya Snider (Tim), Courtney Morgan (Tim) and Monika Singletary (Ben); grandchildren Matthew Snider, Jordan Snider, Tim Morgan IV, Elizabeth Morgan, David Morgan, Victoria Morgan, and Archer Singletary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Asbury Benevolence Fund, Good Samaritan Hospice of Madison, AL or the charity of your choice.
