Michael Wayne Long United States Army Reserve Veteran Michael Wayne Long was born in Greensboro, Alabama, on June 17, 1956. Michael, the oldest of four children, grew up in Greensboro, where at an early age he was baptized and accepted Christ at Mt. Mariah Baptist Church. Michael and Bridget met in Marion Alabama where she was attending Judson Women’s College. They married on September 12, 1987 at Antioch Baptist church (Huntsville, AL) and soon birthed two amazing children from their union together, Michael James and Briana Delois. In earlier years, Michael served faithfully in ministry at Full Gospel Church of Deliverance (Huntsville, AL), Restoration Reviving Center (Huntsville, AL), and then later joined Cornerstone Word of Life Church (CWOL) located in Madison, AL where he was an active member. Michael was intellectually gifted and loved to read. His children took on those same giftings and also became avid book readers. Michael graduated from Hale County Training School and attended college at Alabama A&M University where he majored in Agriculture Business. Michael also attended the United States Army Airborne School and served his country as a Captain in the United States Army Reserve. In 2012, Michael along with his wife Bridget, graduated Bible Institute at CWOL. Michael was also known for his creative culinary art skills and enjoyed cooking during his leisure. Michael began his professional career at the Hilton Hotel as a Banquet Captain and Restaurant Manager. He was a Supervisor at Cinram where he was employed for more than seventeen years. Prior to his departure, Michael was a very adored employee at WalMart Supercenter in Madison Alabama. Michael Wayne Long was a man of great kindness, compassion, and love for others. He dedicated his life to helping anyone in need. He was often called ‘Smiley’ because of the huge contagious smile many were often greeted with whenever they were in his presence. Michael is survived by his loving and devoted wife of twenty-nine years, Bridget; son Michael James; daughter Briana Delois; mother Louise Cockrell; sister Alice La Verne Long; brothers Samuel E. Cockrell (April), William A. Cockrell; nephews Michael D. Long, Kelvin Long (Sherry), Mark E. Jones; nieces Sabrina Cockrell, Kennedy Evans, Reagan Jones, Abigail Dees; mother-in-law Delois Jones; father-in-law James M. Jones Sr (Theresa); brother-in-laws Mark A. Jones (Danyal), Jimmy Jones; sister-in-laws Agatha Dees (Jeffrey), Rhoda Jones, Phebe Jones; aunts Ruth Cockrell, Harriet Colton (David), Margaret Cockrell; uncle Walter Cockrell (Ment); 1st cousin Brenda Moore (Larry) and a host of other uncles, aunts, and cousins. Michael was loved by many people that had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be immensely missed by his family and friends. We love you Mike and will miss you greatly!
