Arto Freman Willis, 72, of Huntsville, passed away Friday after a lengthy bout with cancer. Originally from Alachua, Florida, he left home immediately after high school to join the service and see the world. He served 24 years as an infantryman in the U.S. Army that included a tour in Vietnam. After his retirement, he joined the civil service and spent the rest of his career as an IT network administrator and computer specialist. An avid traveler and prolific reader, he loved to learn and never lost his curiosity for life. He never met a stranger and will always be remembered for his infectious sense of humor. Survivors include his wife, Yong S. Willis; son, Steven D. Willis of Washington DC; daughter, Diana L. Willis of Huntsville; brothers, James Willis of Newberry FL; Rayburn Willis of Palm Coast, FL; and sister Verdie Greeno of Gainesville, FL. Visitation will be from 11 to 12 noon Wednesday at Legacy Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 12 noon. Burial will be at the Faith Memorial Park in Madison. Flowers are welcome and appreciated, but a donation on his behalf to the Russel Hill Cancer Foundation would mean a great deal to the Willis family as that organization is committed to improving the health of cancer patients by supporting bold, innovative cancer research, education and patient assistance.
