James David Rymer

May 12, 1967 — June 22, 2016

Jerome David Rymer was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 12, 1967.  He was the only child born to Jerome Frances Rymer and the late Jessica Carter Rymer.  A devoted husband and father, and a faithful son, Jerome departed this life on June 22, 2016. Jerome was educated in the Philadelphia public school system, where he graduated from Walter Biddle Saul High School in 1986.  Jerome accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior while he was in high school, and although he did not attend college immediately after high school, the ambitions that he listed in his year book included attending Eastern Bible College and Rhema Bible Training Center. Jerome’s career path led him into the world of banking and finance.  Throughout his career he held various positions in mortgage servicing, banking, and with finance companies. Jerome’s relationship with Christ was the primary motivation in his life.  Therefore, at the age of 27, (with the express purpose of seeking a deeper relationship with the Lord), Jerome and his wife Michele moved from Philadelphia to Huntsville, Alabama to become members of Impact Ministries, under the leadership of founder and pastor, Dr. Jim Richards.  Jerome would later express that the teaching ministry of Dr. Richards was the single greatest influence in his walk with the Lord. During his time at Impact, Jerome grew in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and he continued to enjoy Dr. Richard’s teaching ministry until present day.  In recent years Jerome also had the pleasure of serving at Harvest Pointe Methodist Church, Courageous Church, and Movement Church. Later in life Jerome would go on to attend college, beginning his college career at Calhoun Community College in Huntsville, Alabama.  Jerome was grateful for the opportunity to attend college and he took his studies very seriously.  He worked very hard to maintain a high grade point average.  In spring of 2015 Jerome was awarded a full merit scholarship to Alabama A&M University.  He completed two semesters at A&M and he made the dean’s list for 2015 because of his outstanding grades. Jerome was a big fan of R&B Music, as well as Contemporary Christian Music.  Artists on his MP3 Player ranged from Curtis Mayfield to Amy Grant. Jerome was also an avid NFL football fan most of his life.  He dreamed of having a career in the NFL, not as a player, but in some other capacity.  In recent years Jerome caught the college football fever that is so contagious in Alabama, settling on Alabama as his favorite team and would often be heard exclaiming the famous phrase “ROLL TIDE!” Jerome’s favorite thing to do in the whole world was to go on vacation with his family.  The family’s favorite vacation destinations included Destin, Florida and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Jerome leaves to cherish his memory his wife Michele, his daughters Melody and Danielle, his father Jerome F. Rymer, his uncle Sam Rymer, his aunts, Dorothy Alston and Mary Rymer, his cousin Edward Stephens, his brother-in-law, Norman Jones and his wife Shelley, his brothers-in-law, Michael Jones and Benjamin Jones, his sisters-in-law, Carolyn Jones and Lynette Morrison, his aunt by marriage, Shirley “Peach” Riche, and many other relatives, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ. In whatever setting Jerome found himself he was an ambassador for Christ.  Here is what one recent acquaintance wrote in response to learning of Jerome’s untimely passing: “Michele, I am saddened to hear this…Though I only met him that one time, I felt like I completely got to know him; to know his nature, at least the kind of man he was.  A kind, sincere, sweet man of great faith.  There are far too few people in this world like him, and it is so heartbreaking that we now have one less….” Wayne Miller There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Jerome held at Movement Church, 9580 Madison Blvd, Madison AL 35758 on Thursday July 7th at 1:00pm.
