Robert Fredrick Eichhorn, 87, of Madison, Al. passed away Wednesday November 9, 2016. No services are planned at this time. Legacy Chapel Funeral is assisting the family. Robert Eichhorn was born in Middletown, OH on October 19, 1929, the eldest of 6 siblings: Gerald, Maurice, Nancy, Sharon and Donald (deceased). Robert forged his Birth Certificate to join the U.S. Army at 17 years old. After basic training at Ft. Riley, KS, Robert served in Korea 1948-1951, Hawaii, Korea (again), Marshal Islands, West Point, Heilbronn, Germany in 1955, West Point (again), and Augsburg, Germany in 1963. This is where he met and married the beautiful love of his life, Waltraud Schreiter. His career (Infantry Medic Sports) continued in Fort Hood, TX 1966-1968. ARMED FORCES ARMY OLYMPIC CAREER Robert Eichhorn started boxing aboard ship to Korea as a Bantam Weight. He boxed for 18 years, had 268 fights, won 242 and was never “Knocked Out.”. He won many, many championships in Korea, Guam, Far East, Hawaii, South Pacific, Germany, and West Point. He earned the Occupational Medal (Sec I WD Cir 102), Korean Service Medal, 2 Bronze Service Stars, and 3 Bronze Service Stars. After being approved for retirement, he was forced to serve his last 6 months of active duty in Vietnam. He retired from the military on January 8, 1969 and retired from his civilian career as an Estate Groundskeeper in1999. He and his lovely bride moved to Madison, Alabama in October 2002. Robert was very outgoing, helpful, served as head coach, mentor, and instructor. He loved family togetherness, the great outdoors, gardening, traveling (Cancun), skiing, fishing, and hunting. He loved his wife’s cooking (Wally’s is The Best German Restaurant in Town!) He is survived by his wife, Wally, daughter Carmen Bianca, granddaughter Ayesha Pino, and most of his siblings.
